Paul’s Forgotten ’00s

While not as groundbreaking or musically formative as the 1980s & 1990s, the 2000s is certainly worth a least one series of forgotten singles. In this instance your mileage will certainly vary and many will argue that some of these are quite well-remembered. Part 1 takes looks through the indie lens early in the decade – when John Peel was still alive. Part 2 concentrates on a mix of established artists primarily in the alternative sphere while the third instalment is purely pop. Part 4 will raise eyebrows and drive the hipsters mad as it could be viewed as an exercise in chilled blandness. The final part takes me back to the festival circuit as the Celtic Tiger came to an end. Many of these acts played memorable sets at Oxegen and / or Electric Picnic, both which now seem a lifetime away. The photo was taken in parents’ front garden during that glorious summer of 2000.
